School & Reading Readiness
GIVE YOUR CHILD THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO SUCCEED
The Super Kids Tutoring Early Learners program boosts your young child's language development and provides them with the precursor skills to reading and writing, preparing them to achieve academic and lifelong success.
PRE-SCHOOL YEARS ARE PIVOTAL
Your child's pre-school years are a pivotal point in their life.
The language, literacy and learning skills they develop now determine the success they have in school and life. Children who enter school with these skills have an advantage that carries with them throughout their school years.
EARLY LEARNERS 3-4 YEARS OLD
Early literacy skills are learned and developed prior to a child entering formal education and according to research conducted by the National Early Literacy Panel, the years from birth to age five are critical in a child’s development and learning, especially in the area of literacy.
The Early Learners program for 3-4 year olds provides opportunities for children to:
Describe experiences, telling and retelling stories.
Carry out a sequence of instructions.
Learn about the structure of books and concepts of print.
Develop drawing skills.
Develop phonemic awareness - hearing rhyming words and beginning sounds.
Learn about letter sound correspondence.
Recognise and write letters and words.
Develop social skills such as turn taking, cooperating and sharing.
Learn basic mathematical number, space and measurement concepts.
EMERGENT LEARNERS 4-5 YEARS OLD
Designed for children in the year prior to beginning formal schooling, our Emergent Learners program focuses on phonics and phonemic awareness. Phonics and phonemic awareness are essential foundational reading skills and children are taught the alphabetic code in a fun and engaging way through singing songs, doing actions and making the letters with different materials.
Children who know alphabet letters and the sounds they represent, who can hear sounds in words, and who can understand how print works are far more likely to be good readers in kindergarten and in the grades that follow.
The Emergent Learners program for 4-5 year olds includes learning the following skills:
Phonemic awareness – hearing rhyming words, beginning and end sounds.
Phonics – Letter–sound correspondence.
Oral comprehension and vocabulary.
Concepts about print and books.
Fine motor skills development.
Correct pencil grip and letter formation.
Writing letters, words and simple sentences.
Communication skills which encourage listening and talking using questions and statements.
Social skills such as turn taking, cooperating and sharing with other children.
Basic number skills and mathematical concepts aligned with the NSW school syllabus.
